SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT MEMO
Everything You Wanted To Know
Week of August 21, 2017
Dear SJF School Parents,
Greetings from the front office of St. John Fisher! I hope everyone had a great Eclipse Monday, and is enjoying the last few days of summer vacation.
As we approach the start of the 2017/2018 school year, I need you to take a few minutes to check your family’s profile information on SchoolSpeak. It is important that you log into your SchoolSpeak account before the first day of school and take care of the following items:
Click on your User Name located in the far right hand corner of the blue banner that is at the top of your SchoolSpeak Home page. On the drop down menu under your User Name, click on My Profile. Check that your family address, phone and email information is all current and correct. Everyone remembers our crazy winter weather last year; it is this information on SchoolSpeak that is used to notify families of any weather related school closures or late starts due to the weather or other circumstances. Please help us to keep your contact information up to date!
Next, scroll down to the bottom of this same page and locate your child(ren)’s names under Member Associations. Click on your child(ren)’s names and verify that the information listed for each child is correct, paying special attention to the emergency contact information and any allergies or medical conditions that affect your child. In the event of an emergency, St. John Fisher School needs this information to be up to date and accurate.
Once your profile information is updated, this task doesn’t need to be repeated unless there are specific changes to your family’s contact information or your child’s medical status during this school year.
Again, we ask that you please complete this task by the start of school on Tuesday, September 5, 2017. Thank you for helping SJF School to maintain accurate information for your family.
Mrs. Michele Wasman
Congratulation Mrs. Holub!
Our principal, Merrit Holub, has been honored as the Administrator of the Year by the Oregon Association of School Libraries in recognition of her ongoing support of library and media programs at this school and throughout the Archdiocese. Congratulations!
Volunteering at St. John Fisher School:
We welcome your help in the St. John Fisher School community. In order to volunteer, new families need to complete the following requirements: complete a Background Check through Praesidium, view the Called to Protect video and sign the Standards of Conduct for Ministry with Children form. Your Background Check is good for three years once completed. The Called to Protect videos and the Standards of Conduct form only need to be viewed/signed one time. Returning families need to watch the yearly training update module that is assigned to us each fall by the Archdiocese. This year the training update is being provided by Covenant Eyes and is on the topic of internet safety at home. Similar to other years, this training update can be completed at home on your own computer. Please see the attached flyer with information on completing this year’s update.
We will host three Called to Protect training sessions at SJF on Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 8:30am, 1:30pm, and 6:00pm. The training sessions will be in the cafeteria. Advance signup is not necessary, but be sure to sign in on the rosters that will be at each session.
Welcome Jan Tullis
We are happy to announce Ms. Jan Tullis will be our new Technology and Innovation Specialist! Ms. Tullis joins our faculty after many years working with Portland Public Schools. In her prior role she was a Technology Support Advocate and was responsible for on-site technical support to the staff and students across PPS district. Additionally, she has been an Instructional Technology Coordinator working at Chapman Elementary School and volunteering at Jackson Middle School where she instructed students and facilitated staff training. Her references note that she was “absolutely the best to work with” and “from her creative lessons to her ability to fix virtually anything, she would be their top applicant for a position like the one at SJF.”
Welcome Jan! We are excited to have you join our community!
The September 2017 sign-up calendar for before and after school care is attached to this SAM. The calendar is also on the Extended Care page of SchoolSpeak, along with the registration form for the program and price information for this school year.
As you get ready to complete your back to school shopping, please refer to our Dress Code for a complete list of free dress days (which includes the first day of school) and a list of uniform items. We will hold a uniform sale/exchange on the first day of school from after drop off till 9am. Feel free to come and purchase gently used uniform items at a fraction of the price! For new uniform items, we recommend Dennis Uniform (http://www.dennisuniform.com/) or Lands End, landsend.com and at Sears stores, for logo-free items.
