SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT MEMO
Everything You Wanted To Know
Week of April 23, 2018
A Note From Our Principal:
After many weeks of preparation and anticipation, the SJF colony of honey bees will be arriving to be relocated into their new home in the library at St. John Fisher. The honey bees will be arriving at 1:00 pm this Wednesday and the ribbon cutting ceremony will begin once the bees are safe inside of their home.
The observation hive was donated to the school by local green coffee distribution company, Costa Oro Intl, who has worked with “The Bee Cause” over the last 3 years to promote honey bee education for our future generation. This is the 4th observation hive that Costa Oro has donated to local schools for this purpose. The mission of the “Bee Cause Project” is to stimulate curiosity in young people about the importance of honey bees and the need to understand and embrace them and to care about their well-being through the installation of bee hives in over 1,000 schools.
You can find more details about our Beekeeper, Mr. Brian Lacey from Urban Bees and Gardens, via our middle school elective newscast special feature found here: Bee-lieve It or Not! video link or via his website: www.UrbanBeesandGardens.org
Additionally, within the next two weeks, you will see lots of activity on our campus as we prepare to demolish the current rectory to build our new Corrado Family Center. Fences will go up to help ensure safety and we will send more details regarding timelines as they are available with our contractor and demolition crew.

BUILDING OUR FOUNDATION ON HOLY GROUND
SJF will celebrate the bee, as a symbol of Our Lady. “Because of its good working habits, the small honeybee is a well-known symbol for work, good order, and diligence. Less commonly known is that the bee is a representation of virginity. The worker bees have no part in the reproduction of its species, except for that of feeding the baby bees. The responsibilities of “bee parenting” are left to the queen bee and the drones. Since virginity is a virtue we find exemplified to its highest capacity in Our Lady, the bee quite naturally becomes one of Her symbols.” (www.Catholicism.org) St. Valentine, is also our Patron Saint of Beekeepers.

TALENT SHOW AUDITION INFORMATION
Greetings talented SJF students! We are excited to invite you to yet another great SJF Talent Show. Do you dance, sing, juggle, perform magic tricks, or have other impressive skills? We need talented and interesting individuals like you to perform for this annual event!
If you would like to participate in this activity, please sign up to audition with Mr. Vecchione. Auditions will run from April 24-25 during lunch recess time (11:30am-12:40pm), and all performers will need to show Mr. Vecchione and the student leadership class what they will be doing at the Talent Show. Please provide any music you will be using via flash drive or email to Mr. Vecchione @ firstname.lastname@example.org.
MAY CROWNING OF MARY – TUESDAY, MAY 1ST at 2:15pm
May Crowning of Mary is a very special tradition at SJF and marks our annual tribute to Mary, Mother of Jesus. Everyone is invited to attend! All students are asked to bring fresh flowers directly to the cafeteria on the morning of Tuesday, May 1st @ 8:15 a.m. Flowers do not need to be store bought–something in bloom from your own yard will be lovely. Parent volunteers are also needed to help get the flowers arranged into vases after they are brought in on Tuesday morning.
WHAT TO WEAR:
All students may wear clothing other than their uniforms, but are asked to “dress up” in their most formal dress in honor of this special occasion. Formal wear is to be worn all day. Please follow the guidelines below regarding our “Special Dress Code” for this event:
NICE PANTS/SLACKS (no jeans)
COLLARED SHIRTS (no t-shirts)
DRESSES/SKIRTS OF CHURCH APPROPRIATE-LENGTH AND FASHION
DRESS SHOES (remember to bring or wear comfortable shoes for P.E.)
STUDENTS IN THE MAY COURT WILL RECEIVE SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS REGARDING THEIR ATTIRE.
The ceremony begins in the church at 2:15 p.m. Students will be seated by class in the front half of the church. We ask visitors to sit towards the back half and side sections.
