Everything You Wanted To Know

Week of November 26, 2018

A Note from our Principal:

“From the first moment that a student sets foot into a Catholic school, he or she ought to have the impression of entering a new environment, one illuminated by the light of faith and having its own unique characteristics.” The Religious Dimension of Education in a Catholic School , Congregation for Catholic Education, Rome, 1988

St. John Fisher School strives to have regular opportunities for the school community to experience prayer and the Sacraments. Additionally, we use signs, sacramentals, traditions and rituals of the Roman Catholic Church throughout the school. Please take this short 10 question survey, provided by the Western Catholic Educational Association, to help us identify areas of strength and areas for growth regarding our Catholic Identity: For your time in completing the survey, you are welcome to add 1 hour to your Family Volunteer Hours log.

Today is “#givingtuesday” when we take time and give back to the communities and charitable causes we care about. We so greatly appreciate your commitment to St. John Fisher Parish and School as many of us are giving in so many ways through time, talent and treasure. If you are considering a gift in honor of #givingtuesday, feel free to use this easy access portal to make a contribution to our church, school or capital campaign:

Playground Parents, please arrive at school by 11:25 am to sign in at the school office and pick up your clipboard and volunteer badge. As a reminder, we have returned to our lunch time schedule of “lunch first, recess second” for this school year. You can check the playground duty schedule at any time on SchoolSpeak by clicking on the “Playground Calendar” tab. Thank you for helping to keep our students safe on the playground!

Parents, both the School and Playground Duty calendars for December 2018 are attached to this SAM. Please consult both on a regular basis so you don’t miss any of the activities at school or any duties your family might have been assigned.

The latest news from our Tech Team is here .

The Christmas food drive for St. Vincent de Paul is underway. Thank you for caring for your neighbors in need this Christmas. We would appreciate your donations of non-perishable food items and toiletries. Please be sure food is not expired. Many of our food box recipients have health problems, so nutritious foods are key, especially low salt and low sugar items. Vegetables, fruit, pasta, beans, and canned tuna and meats, are all welcome. Soup, cereal, peanut or other nut butters and toiletries will also help us build well-rounded boxes for the people we serve.

On December 1 we will be receiving and sorting donations from local Boy Scouts in the cafeteria. Volunteers are needed to start setting up the space at 8 am. Scouts will drop off between 10 and 2. Friday, December 14 at 7 pm we will pack food boxes in the cafeteria. Delivery of the food is on Dec 15. Fr. Richard will bless the food at 9:45. Hope to see you there.

If you have questions, call me at 503-452-1535.

Thank you,

Patricia Fryer

The calendar of Advent activities that was in last week’s SAM contained some incorrect information. Please consult the calendar attached to this SAM for up to date information on all the Advent activities at SJF.

Hello SJF parents!

Auction Season has begun and we are kicking off procurement donations. First up – we are looking for anchor items that the auction team can use to build a package around. An anchor item could be vacation homes, tickets to sporting and music events, premier restaurant vouchers, museum passes, Disneyland passes, airline tickets, etc. Please let us know if you, a family member or friend would like to donate. All donations are tax deductible and all proceeds go directly to SJF.

Thank you,

Jill Habrich and Morgan Savela
