Everything You Wanted To Know

Week of December 3, 2018

A Note from our Principal:

Welcome to Advent! As we get ready to celebrate the birth of our Savior, let us remember there are many ways for us to prepare. Throughout this month, our entire school community will gather in our cafeteria each Monday morning at 8:20am for our Advent Prayer Service. This activity, led by faculty and students, helps bring our focus to the true meaning of Christmas as we prepare for the birth of Jesus. All are welcome to attend!

Another way our school and parish prepare for Christmas is to donate items to our St. Vincent de Paul food drive. This active ministry within our parish will put together over 200 food boxes that will feed families in the local Southwest Portland community. Items requested include protein products (peanut butter, beans, tuna and stew), canned vegetables or fruit, soup, paper products such as paper towels, toilet paper, pasta, spaghetti sauce, Hamburger Helper or other packaged dinners. As a special incentive, if you bring in 4 items for the food drive this Friday , that will serve as your Free Dress pass for the day! Please take some time during your grocery shopping and pick up a little something for those in need.

Looking ahead on the calendar, make sure you have our Christmas concerts on your calendar! Tomorrow night, Wednesday, December 5th is our Band and Glee Choir performance and Wednesday, December 12th is our kindergarten through fourth grade program. Both concerts begin at 6:30pm in our church. See you there!

You can check the playground duty schedule at any time on SchoolSpeak by clicking on the “Playground Calendar” tab. Thank you for helping to keep our students safe on the playground!

Enjoy the last newscast from the first trimester tech students. Nice work team!

Thank you for your donations thus far. Please keep them coming, so we can fill those food boxes. Over the last weekend we received less than hoped for from the Boy Scout food drive. Any non-perishable food item is welcome as well as toiletries.

Food boxes will be packed on Friday, Dec 14 at 6:30 pm in the cafeteria. Join us at this fun family event.

If you know someone in the SJF community or in our neighborhood in need of a Christmas food box, please contact me by this Friday. We keep the recipient’s information confidential. Food will be delivered December 15.

The sale of our little ghostie friends raised $258.45 for Medical Teams International. Nice work SJF! Thank you to Mr. Vecchione and the Leadership elective students for organizing, making, and then delivering all those spook-o-grams.

The 8 th grade students are selling candy-cane-grams to assist in funding the annual 8 th grade retreat. All proceeds will go towards the cost of this wonderful St. John Fisher tradition for graduating 8 th graders. Your student will be bringing home labels to address, each candy-gram is 25-cents. Please fill out the labels, attach exact cash or check, and drop the labels in the gift wrapped box in their classroom. Candy-grams will be for sale through December 12/11, and distributed on Friday December 14 th . Please contact Mandy Magaddino or Christi Pickard with any questions.

As the end of the year approaches, you may choose to make additional charitable contributions before the December 31st deadline. Your gift can be used generally or more specifically to benefit tuition assistance, curriculum enhancement or technology.

If you work for a corporation that offers a matching gift program, most likely every dollar you contribute will be matched dollar-for-dollar by your employer. If you would like more information on year-end giving, please contact Kelly Corrigan, Development Director, .
