SJF Summer SAM ’20 Update

July 28, 2020

Good Afternoon SJF Families,

This afternoon Governor Brown held a press conference releasing additional guidelines for the
Ready Schools, Safe Learners protocols. These additional guidelines center around a new
matrix to determine when schools will be able to open for in-person instruction. Given these
new restrictions, Portland Public Schools and Beaverton Public Schools have already
announced they will be doing Comprehensive Distance Learning (all online) through the first

I will be researching this new expectation and on Monday, the Archdiocese will be holding a
principal meeting to decipher the matrix with as much clarity as possible. Should we be unable
to return to campus in September due to this new requirement, I can assure you that the faculty,
staff and I have also been working on our distance learning protocols. These guidelines are
also in our Return to School plan that the SAC and PTC Exec. will discuss on Monday evening
and I will be adding more details of that aspect of education to my parent letter next Tuesday.

As mentioned in this morning’s Special Announcement Memo, up till now, St. John Fisher
School has met (or exceeded) all requirements as laid out in the Oregon Department of
Education blueprint and our collective goal remains to do our best to return to in-person
instruction. We have invested time and money getting our school facility ready for faculty, staff
and students to safely return. Now for this to happen, we all need to do our part to help bring
COVID-19 cases down. Stay safe and well!
