SJF Summer ’20 Update 08-14-20

Hello St. John Fisher School Families,

Yesterday we received the latest update on the Oregon Department of Education “Ready Schools, Safe Learners” guidance for the 2020-21 school year.  I have incorporated their additional requirements into our Return to School plan and have sent it along to the Archdiocese for their review.  Once reviewed, I will share the entire Return to School plan with all families.

Last week I reviewed our Comprehensive Distance Learning program.  We have added a few more details and attached an updated information sheet.  The biggest change is that our first week of school (September 8-11) will be a “slow start” for ALL students.  Your child will come to campus to meet with their homeroom teacher for a 30 minute session. During this time, your child and their teacher will have the opportunity to build a relationship, have a social-emotional check in, get their Chromebook, textbooks and supplies and see the classroom.  Sign-ups for these sessions will occur via Schoolspeak, and will be posted next week. If you are having any issues logging onto SchoolSpeak, please contact Michele Wasman so that you are able to access the signups next week.

In an effort to provide you information of what it will look like when we do get to return to campus for school, I have also attached our “Return to Campus” plan.  This gives an overview of what safety measures and facility updates we have put in place on campus to ensure the safety of our faculty, staff and students once we meet the matrix to allow for in-person instruction.

Additionally, I will be hosting optional “Zoom” meetings for families next week, all at 5:30pm:

  • Tuesday, 8/18: 6th – 8th

  • Wednesday, 8/19: 3rd-5th

  • Thursday, 8/20: K-2nd

I realize that not all may be able to attend a Zoom meeting and many folks have the same questions.  Therefore, if you would please submit questions ahead (ideally by Friday) via the following Google Form, I will respond collectively to frequently asked questions in the SAM next Tuesday.
