SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT MEMO - Everything You Wanted To Know Week of May 27, 2024 A NOTE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL Exciting news for our parish and school community - we have learned who our new pastor will be - Fr. Valentine Joseph GASPARRAJ. Fr. Valentine has been a priest for 40 years. In his career, he has been a professor of theology in one of the major seminaries in India. He has a PhD in theology from Catholic University in Paris, France and has worked as pastor in two parishes in the diocese of La Crosse, Wisconsin for 12 years. He has come to Portland directly from India after finishing his term in the seminary as a teacher. Let’s continue the SJF tradition of hospitality and we can all look forward to welcoming him to our community on July 1, 2024.

What an amazing celebration for our entire community! Starting with the Jogathon, then moving to the Talent Show and wrapping up with the Community BBQ, our faculty, staff, students and families really brought out the love for our SJF community. Special thanks to all our volunteers, particularly our Jogathon Chairs Nora Jensen and Lauren Bailey, our Talent Show coordinator Mr. Don Vecchione and our Community BBQ coordinators Ashley Reese and Samantha Hamilton. In celebrating the Summer Olympics, including our own alumna Magda Skarbonkiewicz who will be representing the USA and competing in fencing, our theme this year is “Go For Gold!” During our Opening Ceremonies, our 6th grade cheer squad performed cheers and a dance routine, the students participated in relays, and our teachers had a “Parade of Nations.” For complete coverage of the celebration, head to our social media pages so you too can join in on the fun!

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT MEMO - Everything You Wanted To Know Week of April 29, 2024 A NOTE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL With spring comes change and as we prepare for the 2024-25 academic year I wanted to announce a couple faculty and staff changes for our campus. Mrs. Beth Gould, Kindergarten - Third Grade Academic Support Coordinator and Mrs. Kerry Oliver, Facilities Manager will be leaving at the end of this school year. We have officially begun the hiring process so if you know of any potential applicants looking to work for a great Catholic school, please pass this information along. SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT MEMO - Everything You Wanted To Know Week of March 11, 2024 A NOTE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL Each year our budget and tuition is set through a collaborative process with our School Advisory Council Finance Committee, Parish Finance Committee, Father Richard and myself. When discussing priorities for the upcoming school budget we wanted to keep our commitment to maintaining our high-quality academic program. This includes ensuring our teacher and staff pay increases are aligned with COLA. Our program offerings not only include a solid core curriculum, but a focus on educating the whole child through electives and specialists. Additionally, our support services with Instructional Assistants and 2 Academic Support Coordinators, help students reach their full potential. Finally, we are committed to supporting families that have financial need and offer a robust tuition scholarship program for those who are eligible. 

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT MEMO - Everything You Wanted To Know Week of March 4, 2024 A NOTE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL In preparation for the end of the second trimester next Friday and spring break/Holy Week the week of March 25-April 1, we have a number of events happening at St. John Fisher that I wanted to bring to your attention: STEM Fair: PreK through Eighth grade students will be proudly displaying projects they have completed for family and friends from 2:00-3:05pm on Tuesday, March 14th. Friends and family are invited to this fun event showcasing our students' work.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT MEMO - Everything You Wanted To Know Week of February 26, 2024 A NOTE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL This past weekend our pastor of 12 years, Father Richard Thompson, announced his retirement. Fr. Richard leaves a great legacy of service to our parish and school community. Hallmarks of his time here that will last many years include the successful Growing to Serve Capital Campaign which remodeled our school, built our Corrado Family Center and remodeled the rectory, and construction and opening of our new preschool. He’s celebrated the sacraments with many of our students and for them, he’s most likely one of the few priests they have known. So much to celebrate and we are so thankful for his time at SJF.

Thank you SJF families for all your support with our Cardinal Week of Giving. With over 92% family participation, we surpassed our goal and raised over $120,000, meeting our match of $55,000! Final fundraising totals are still rolling in from sales at the event including easel parties. Some slots in easel parties remain so feel free to stop by the lobby this week before or after school to sign up for events like the Around the World Dinner (June 8, 2024), 3rd - 6th grade girls sleepover (Sept 6, 2024), Tacos and Tequila (Sept 6, 2024) or Ice Skating and Cocoa with the Winterhawks (January, 2025).
