Everything You Want to Know
Week of January 3, 2022
FROM THE PRINCIPAL:
Happy 2022, SJF! It’s great to have our community back together again. I hope your Christmas break was refreshing and rejuvenating as we get ready to navigate this last half of the school year.
Considering the uptic in COVID cases due to the Omicron variant, please know that the health and safety of our students, teachers and staff is our number one priority. We have layered mitigation safety protocols in place and are confident that SJF remains a safe environment for all students and staff.
Please contact me directly at [email protected] if someone in your family is exposed or tests positive for COVID. We utilize the Planning for COVID-19 Scenarios In Schools guidance for isolation/quarantine guidelines and work closely with the Multnomah County Health Department to affirm the quarantine recommendations. As new guidance may emerge, I will continue to keep you all up to date.
Additionally, in an effort to keep the community healthy, please keep your child home from school if they are sick. This needs to be our collective commitment as a community to maintain our goal of keeping everyone safe and our school open for in-person learning.
I appreciate your continued support and we look forward to all that the rest of this school year brings for our community.

AUCTION NEWS
Hello SJF families!
I hope everyone had a fabulous Christmas break! First, huge congratulations to our travel raffle winner, Cassandra Forbess! I know she will have a great time with her Churchill Downs Experience. Thank you to everyone who helped us raise over $13,000 towards our auction goal.
As we come back to school, it is time to get auction prep in full swing. It takes participation from EVERYONE to have a successful auction. We need the following help in our auction preparations:
Silent Auction Donations:
We need items for our silent auction "baskets". Thank you to everyone who has already signed up! Remember, all donations are tax deductible. To sign up, please use the following link : https://www.signupgenius.
Procurement:
Are you great at using a spreadsheet, Google and sending an email using a template? Do you have capacity to print and hand deliver donation letter requests? Then I need you to assist with procurement! Email me at [email protected]
Class Package Reps:
We need volunteers from each class to collect items from each class to assemble an auction package worth $2500 or more. Please email [email protected] to sign up. Package guidance and suggestions will be provided!
Easel Parties:
If you have a fabulous idea for an easel party, please contact Tracie Nissen at [email protected]! Successful events from last year were virtual or were delivered items, such as the Halloween buckets, Easter bunny drop offs and wine tastings online.
For the latest and greatest in auction news, be sure to check out our website at http://sjfauction.org/
Thank you for all your support and have a blessed day!
Warmly,
Alison Ortiz, Auction Chair
SCHOOL CLOSURE POLICIES
Here is a review of SJF’s inclement weather policies. You can also locate this information on page 15 of your Parent/Student Handbook (the little red handbook):
Announcements concerning school closure and late starts are shared with parents via parent email, posting on the SJF Facebook & Instagram pages, posting on the Announcements banner of your Family Portal on FACTS, and via the FACTS Parent Alert text feature.
During inclement weather, keep the following points in mind:
If the Portland Public School District (PPS) is closed, SJF is closed.
If PPS has a late opening, SJF has a late start at 10:00am. Morning Extended Care and Hot Lunch are not available on late start days.
SJF does reserve the right to make an independent decision regarding school closure or late opening.
If you haven’t yet enrolled in the Parent Alert feature, please text the keyword “START” to 22-383 from your mobile device. Any text alerts from our school will begin with “SJF-ALERT” and calls will show “503-246-3234” (school phone number).
