SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT MEMO
Everything You Want to Know
Week of January 9, 2023
FROM THE PRINCIPAL:
Safety for our students and families is our number one priority. In an effort to provide a safe environment for our students, as well as to accommodate the needs of our parent volunteers and visitors to St. John Fisher during school hours, we ask that you please follow the drop off/pick up protocols:
Car line: Parents may enter from either the 45th or Vermont Street entrance in order to drop off and pick up students in front of the school.
45th: proceed down the double lane, turning left in front of the church and enter the left lane in the front of the school. (blue arrows on map below)
Vermont Street: proceed up the driveway and go through the breezeway turning right to enter the right lane in front of the school. (red arrows on map below)
Please wait for your car to be one of the first 3 in the drop off/pick up lane before students get in/out to ensure we can see all students exiting/entering cars.
If you are dropping off students, you need to route through the line versus letting them out within the parking lot to avoid collisions with our students/families that park for drop off.
Park: Parents that plan to park their car to walk their child to the main entrance for drop off or pick up may enter via 45th and park in the main lot.
All walkers (parents and students) need to utilize the crosswalk in front of the school - walking in the driving lanes is a hazard
To help accommodate our kindergarten students and the crosswalk, if you arrive before dismissal, please wait in the main breezeway (by the cement bench)
Students that walk: If your child walks to/from school, please have them utilize the walking path that leads from the school entrance, around the front of the church to the sidewalk on California St. (yellow arrows on map)
As a general rule of thumb, please drive cautiously and be aware of the surroundings during drop off and pick up. If you bring your pet or cell phone with you to pick up/drop off your child, please leave the pets in the car and cell phones off to avoid distractions and maintain safety. Thank you for helping to keep our students, faculty, staff and parents safe on campus.
Now that winter has arrived, so have colds and flus. In the interest of keeping our community healthy, students must be fever-free without medication and have no nausea, vomit or diarrhea for 24 hours before being readmitted to class. We appreciate notification of absences by 8:15am.
Additionally, when children are sick, our goal is for them to rest so they can get well quickly. With regards to missed schoolwork from an absence, teachers are not able to prepare materials for sick students in the morning due to preparations for the day ahead of them. If a student will be absent for a day, we are happy to work with each child once they return to get caught up on the work when they return to campus. If they end up having an extended absence, teachers can prepare materials to be picked up from the front bench after 3:30pm. Should you choose to pick up materials due to an extended absence, please make sure to email the teacher with 24 hours notification so we can make sure to gather the necessary materials for pick up.
