SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT MEMO
Everything You Want to Know
Week of January 31, 2022
FROM THE PRINCIPAL:
Happy National Catholic Schools Week! On behalf of the entire SJF faculty and staff, I would like to thank you for your commitment to your child’s Catholic education. As a mom of children in Catholic education myself, I recognize the time and financial commitment it takes to be an active member of the school and larger parish community. I wholeheartedly believe that the investment you make in your child’s educational career creates the platform for not only their academic success, but more importantly, a solid spiritual foundation. Thank you for being part of our family!
This past week the Oregon Department of Education updated a number of their resources regarding the Resiliency Framework to reflect the changes they made with the new year when aligning to CDC recommendations. One document I have found very helpful throughout the pandemic is the Planning for COVID-19 Scenarios in Schools. This document provides you step-by-step instructions for multiple situations should you or your child become exposed or diagnosed with COVID. Additionally, this newly created flowchart also identifies the quarantine and isolation guidelines in a user-friendly format.
St. John Fisher School continues to have strong safety protocols in place that are keeping our students and staff healthy. Since the emergence of Omicron, we have had 56 positive cases representing 26% of our student body. Although that number may sound high, it falls in line with the predicted surge and case numbers of other schools in Multnomah/Washington County. Additionally, the health department continues to affirm that the multiple mitigation procedures and practices on our campus have provided for extremely low transmission levels while at school. We ask that families and students continue to stay vigilant with us in working to prevent the spread of COVID-19 by limiting social gatherings, wearing face coverings, maintaining physical distance, practicing good hygiene habits and getting vaccinated. Compliance with these measures will ensure we are doing everything possible to keep our community healthy.
