SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT MEMO
Everything You Wanted To Know
Week of November 27, 2023
A NOTE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL
Each year, PTC presents a speaker on a topic of interest to families for our Parent Information Night and this year we have our School Resource Officer, Justin Haugen, joining us. Officer Haugen will be discussing several issues that are top of mind for parents and our community with helpful insights and answering questions. These will include: Issues being seen in schools, Fentanyl, Social Media and Resources for parents and kids. Childcare for St. John Fisher students is provided at no cost for those attending this meeting in our after-care with Drew Boyer. If you will be needing childcare, please RSVP to Drew Boyer at [email protected]. Each parent will receive 1 volunteer hour for attending. We hope to see you there.
This weekend we start our Advent journey. I hope we all find meaningful ways to celebrate the season of Advent - not just the excitement of Christmas. Here are a few ideas to help you and your family get into the Advent season:
St. Vincent de Paul Food Drive begins this week where we will gather food and toiletries for families in SW Portland. Our food collection is complete on Wednesday, Dec 13th and students may bring their items directly to their classroom. Should you be interested in assisting with the box preparation, that will occur on Friday, Dec 15th at 6:30pm and the food box distribution will be on Saturday, Dec 16th at 9:45am. Both events will be held in the Corrado Family Center. Although all non-perishable foods are welcome, below are suggested themes for each grade to help ensure a variety of food/items:
PreK and K: Pasta and Toothbrushes
1st and 7th grades: Brown and white rice and toilet paper
2nd and 6th grades: Canned meat and tuna and shampoo
3rd and 5th grades: Canned veggies and fruit and deodorant
4th and 8th grades: Soup, chili and toothpaste
Christmas Bazaar is this Saturday from 1:00-4:00pm in our Corrado Family Center. We will have many vendors, treats and activities for the kids to help us get into the holiday spirit!
For hall prayer on Monday, 12/4 and Monday, 12/11 we will host an all school Advent Prayer Service in the school gym from 8:15am till approx. 8:30am. Friends and family are welcome to participate in this annual tradition.
Men’s Club Prime Rib Dinner will be on Thursday, 12/7 at 7pm in the Corrado Family Center.
PreK - 4th Grade Christmas Program will be on Wednesday, 12/13 at 5:30pm in the church. For the performance, students are welcome to wear “Fancy Free Dress” with Christmas accessories or their uniform.
Attached to the SAM is a fun “Advent Kindness calendar.” Similar to an Advent calendar, it provides some examples of activities that children can do each day leading up to Christmas.
