Summer SAM #3 - 08-17-2023

 

A NOTE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL

When you arrive at campus you will notice new safety yellow concrete bollards that will have a cable extending from one side to the other secured with a combination padlock. For safety and security, we will begin to lock the entrances to our campus in the evening. The entrance from Vermont will be open from 7am - 6pm Monday through Friday and the entrance from 45th will be open from 7am - last person is on campus (evening). We will distribute the padlock combination to our faculty, staff and frequent volunteers such as SAC/PTC Exec members and CYO coaches.

Thursday 8/31:  2:30-4:00pm: Supply Drop Off & Uniform Sale

Monday 9/4: Labor Day Holiday - No School

Tuesday 9/5: GR 1-8 First Day of School in Uniform,  PreK & K Individual Slow Start meetings

Wednesday 9/6: 1:00pm School Mass (Teachers), 2:00pm Dismissal, PreK & K Individual Slow Start meetings

Thursday 9/7: PreK & K First Day of School

 

CARDINAL UPDATES

Our PreK is coming together! The acoustical ceiling and cabinets were installed this week and we anticipate move-in to be next Thursday, August 24th. We are looking forward to showing off our new space at the supply drop off and uniform sale on Thursday, August 31st from 2:30-4:00.

 

WELCOME MRS. LAURA DICKSON AND MS. ASHLEY REESE

We are so excited to welcome two new instructional assistants to SJF: Mrs. Laura Dickson (working in 1st with Mrs. Grenz) and Ms. Ashley Reese (working in kindergarten with Mrs. Westfall). Both have a long history of working with children as Mrs. Dickson was a preschool teacher at Hilltop for 20 years and Ms. Reese is a frequent volunteer at SJF with multiple grades. Welcome to the team!

UNIFORMS

Reminder: Uniforms are required for all students on the first day of school (Tues. 9/5).

We will have gently used uniform pieces for sale on Thursday, Aug. 31 from 2:30-4:00 pm during our School Supply Dropoff and Uniform Sale event.

Volunteers are needed for the uniform sale. Please contact Robin Levesque if you are available to help. It’s a great way to meet new people, say hi to old friends, and spend some time in the brand new preschool space!

 

EXTENDED CARE SIGNUPS

Parents, please be sure to sign up for your September 2023 Extended Care coverage.  The Extended Care Registration Form and September 2023 signup calendar are attached to this SAM, and are also available on the FACTS Family Portal under Resource Documents.

 

VOLUNTEERING AT SJF

We appreciate our parent volunteers! If you will be volunteering on campus this year (CYO coaches, hot lunch, classroom helpers, room parents, field trip chaperones, etc.), you are required to complete the following before beginning any volunteer service.

New Volunteers (New Family at SJF or you have not previously volunteered at school):

• 

  Background Check 

• 

  Read and sign the “Know Your Policies” form

• 

  Attend the in-person training, “Creating A Safe Environment” (CASE Training)

The background check and policy acknowledgement form are completed online through Praesidium Academy, the training portal used in the Archdiocese for all parent volunteers. The CASE training schedule at SJF is below.  A list of additional training sessions taking place throughout the diocese this fall is attached to this SAM.

Ongoing Volunteers (Returning families to SJF who will continue their service with minors):

  Take this year’s online training course, “Foundations: Preventing Abuse in Youth Serving Organizations”

You can access this training through your Praesidium Academy account.

Please contact Mrs. Wasman in the school office if you have any questions about volunteering at SJF.

C.A.S.E. TRAINING DATES AT SJF

St. John Fisher will host C.A.S.E. (Creating A Safe Environment) training sessions on the following dates: Wed, 9/13 at 5pm (just prior to Gr 6-8 Back to School Night), Wed, 9/20 at 5pm (just prior to Gr PreK-5 Back to School Night) and Fri, 9/22 at 8:30am

All new parent volunteers are required to attend this in-person training. Advance registration is not required.
