Summer SAM #4 - 08-20-24

A NOTE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL

Exciting news - The September hot lunch menu is ready and open for ordering from your FACTS Parent Portal.  As you get ready to order, a few important items to note: 

• Hot lunch begins on Tuesday, Sept. 10. There will be no hot lunch available the first week of school (9/3-9/9).

• To order, login to your FACTS Parent Portal via a computer as this is a safeguard since the hot lunch payment is connected to your bank account information within FACTS

• Cost for hot lunch is $4.50 per meal, $6.50 for meal + extra entree and $3.00 for salad bar only.

• In an effort to help with accurate numbers for hot lunch and to reduce the number of emails coming from campus, we will be closing the menu every two weeks (versus weekly). 

• Sometimes people forget to bring their lunch and we don’t want any child to go hungry. Therefore, we will feed those students that don’t have lunch, but we will be tracking these meals and charging your family FACTS account, including a $1.00 per meal processing fee, at the end of each month.

• Dessert on Friday will be chocolate milk versus chocolate milk and an additional dessert. This is for grades K - 8th as early childhood regulations allow only unflavored low-fat (1 percent) or unflavored fat-free (skim) to be served.  

• Menu & Dietary Concerns - If you have any questions regarding the menu or specific dietary concerns, please contact lunchstaff@sjfschool.org. Please add the student's name, grade and “lunch” in the subject line.

For detailed instructions on how to order, please see the attached document and/or refer to the Resource Documents section in FACTS which also has a helpful tutorial on how to order your hot lunches. Additionally, hot lunch staff will be on campus during the Supply Drop-off on Thurs, 8/29 to answer any questions you may have about ordering lunches or volunteering in the kitchen

Tuesday & Wednesday 9/3-9/4: PreK & K Slow Start Days (Individual Slow Start appointments)

Thursday 9/5:  PreK & K 1st Day of School

CARDINAL HAPPENINGS!

This past Sunday we enjoyed some popsicles and playtime with our incoming PreK and Kindergarten families. Special thanks to Jenn Queen and Molly Marra for organizing!

AFTER SCHOOL EXTRA CURRICULAR OPPORTUNITIES

• CYO SPORTS

  • This week our CYO volleyball program for grades 3rd - 8th began. If you missed the initial deadline to sign up, please contact our Athletic Director, Justin Reel at [email protected] or Volleyball Coordinator, Nora Jensen at [email protected]. 

• CHESS WIZARDS

  • It’s time to register for fall chess classes.  Chess Wizards is an after school chess program for SJF students in grades K through 5.  Information about the program, along with a link for registration is on the attached flyer.

• M.U.S.E. BAND PROGRAM

  • M.U.S.E. Band is our after school band program for students in grades 4-8. Classes take place once a week after school, and no previous experience is necessary.  Go to the  M.U.S.E. Band website for information on registration, costs, schedules and instrument rental. See the attached flyer for information about our M.U.S.E. instructor, Jessica Horey.

PARENT CONTACT INFO IN FACTS

Parents, please take a minute this week to make sure your phone, email, and address information is correct in FACTS.  This is the program we use to distribute this weekly SAM, send notice about emergency school closures, and pull information for the school directory. We want it to be accurate!

VOLUNTEERING AT ST. JOHN FISHER

We appreciate our parent volunteers! If you will be volunteering on campus this year in any capacity (CYO coaches, hot lunch, classroom helpers, room parents, field trip chaperones, etc.), you are required to complete the following before beginning any volunteer service.

New Parent Volunteer Requirements (New Family at SJF or you have not previously volunteered at school):

• First, attend the in-person training, “Creating A Safe Environment” (CASE Training) . Please note that you must do your CASE training in person; there is not a remote option for the CASE training course.  The CASE training schedule at SJF is below.  A list of additional training sessions taking place throughout the diocese this fall is attached to this SAM

• Background Check - Once complete, your background check is good for 3 years.The background check and policy acknowledgement form are completed online through Praesidium Academy, the training portal used in the Archdiocese for all parent volunteers.

• Read and digitally sign the “Know Your Policies” form

Ongoing Parent Volunteer Requirements (Returning families to SJF who will continue their service with minors):

• Complete the online training update assigned by the Archdiocese. For the 2024-25 school year, parents may view either the “Preventing Sexual Activity Between Young Children” course, or the “Preventing Sexual Activity Between Adolescents” course. Additional information on these courses is attached to this SAM. You can access and view either course through your Praesidium Academy account.

CASE TRAINING DATES AT ST. JOHN FISHER

SJF will host CASE (Creating a Safe Environment) trainings this fall on the following dates:

Wednesday, Sept. 18 at 5:00pm (Just prior to the PreK - 5th grades Back to School night)

Friday, Sept. 20 at 8:30am (Right after morning dropoff)

Friday, Sept. 20 at 1:30pm (Finishes just before afternoon pickup)

Pre-registration is not required.  All CASE training takes place in the Corrado Family Center.
