SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT MEMO
Everything You Want to Know
Week of September 5, 2022
FROM THE PRINCIPAL:
Welcome to the 2022-23 school year! I hope your summer was filled with memories of good times. We have been preparing for the big start all summer and from the excitement in the school this morning, it was apparent that the kids (and parents) were ready for school to begin.
With the start of each school year comes a bit of “housekeeping.” During this month, I will feature a series of friendly reminders regarding events that happen on campus. This week:
Parent Communication.
Parent Communication: As your partner in your child(rens) education, we strive to maintain open communication with you regarding school and classroom events. A few venues we use for communication are:
“SAM” (Special Announcements Memo): Our SAM comes from the school office via E-mail every Tuesday. This weekly newsletter contains important parent information that will help keep you informed of the great activities that happen on our campus. Please make sure to read this mailing each week in a timely manner. After the SAM is sent to parents, it is added to your FACTS Family Portal under Resource Documents. If you are not receiving this message at an email that is convenient for you, please contact Mrs. Michele Wasman at [email protected] to update your email address.
FACTS: FACTS is our secure intranet website that contains school/teacher newsletters, our family directory, email links for classroom teachers, forms you may need, and more. You can access FACTS HERE or via the link off our school web page under “Parents.”
New Family Orientation: Tomorrow night from 5:30pm-6:30pm we will host our new families for an informational session about life at SJF on the lower blacktop. Our mentor families, PTC Exec and I will be there to fill you in about the various events at SJF and to answer your back to school questions. See you then!
Back to School Night: We host 2 Back to School Nights, both sessions beginning at 6:30pm. Parents of middle school students come to the Corrado Family Center on Wednesday, September 14th and parents of children in grades K-5 come to their child’s homeroom on Wednesday, September 21st with 1 session at 6:30pm and a second session at 7:00pm. During this event, you will have opportunities to meet the faculty and staff and hear the specifics for your child’s grade level. We look forward to seeing you then!
Welcome again to another great year!

BACKPACK FOR KIDS PROGRAM
Dear Parents:
My name is Darlene Sheridan and I teach second grade here at St. John Fisher School. It is so nice to be back at church and at school and we thank you for your continued support for our school!
I’m writing today to provide you the opportunity to partner with our class as we help children in need. Many schools feed students free breakfast and lunch, but on weekends these students don’t have enough food to eat. To help provide students with food over the weekend, there is a national program called Backpack for Kids. In this program, people donate food items that kids can fix themselves at home if their parents are working or aren’t available to make meals. After the food is donated, it is filled into backpacks that the children get at school on Fridays and take home for the weekend. They bring the backpack back to school the following Monday and it is filled again for the next Friday.
Our school will be collecting food items throughout the year to support this program. Example items include soup with pop-up lids, peanut butter and crackers, fruit cups, tuna kits with crackers, granola bars, and bagels. You are welcome to bring your items to the school office or 2nd grade classroom. We donate the food items through St. Vincent dePaul, so please mark your donations “Backpack fors Kids” when you donate.
We appreciate your help with this service project throughout the school year. Pray with me for our children in this time in our world that they will come to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior. That will provide them joy and peace that will carry with them all their lives.
Thank you for all that you do,
Darlene Sheridan
