SUMMER SAM #2
Everything You Want to Know
Week of August 8, 2022
FROM THE PRINCIPAL:
Yesterday I had the opportunity to attend the first Oregon Department of Education “Office Hours” for the school year. These bi-weekly meetings were held throughout the past two years to discuss the various rules and regulations regarding COVID protocols. As I attended yesterday, I was comforted to know that as of today, the policies and procedures we utilized last spring will remain in effect for this current school year. A few protocol items to remember:
Families and students are asked to monitor their children for any illness. If a student is not feeling well and/or has a fever, diarrhea or is vomiting, they need to stay home for 24 hours after symptoms have subsided without the use of medication.
Masks are optional and reserved as a family decision. Teachers are not responsible for monitoring students wearing masks.
If a student is diagnosed with COVID via rapid or PCR testing, they will need to be isolated for 5 days from the onset of symptoms and/or positive test. Additionally, once they return to school, we ask that they please wear a mask for 5 additional days.
SJF will not be offering “remote learning” or streaming services for students that are not present at school. When students return following an illness or absence, teachers will have the assignments they need to get them caught up.
Quarantine applies to those with a positive COVID test only. It does not extend to family members or those that sit near the child.
SJF has rapid tests available for students that have been exposed to the positive child. Should families desire testing, they can call the office for a test kit to be sent home for self administration.
COVID-19 vaccines are required for all employees and volunteers. The vaccine requirement extends to either the 2 shot series for Pfizer or Moderna or the 1 shot Johnson and Johnson. Booster shots are NOT required.
If you plan to volunteer on campus, please send a copy of your vaccine card to Mrs. Wasman at [email protected]. If you provided vaccine documentation last year, we already have you on file for this year. No need to resubmit.
Additionally, in an effort to provide a safe environment for our students, as well as to accommodate the needs of our parent volunteers and visitors to St. John Fisher during school hours, we will be utilizing only the front door for drop off and pick up. We ask that you please follow these very important guidelines for our parking lot to ensure the safety of everyone:
Car line: Parents may enter campus from either the 45th or Vermont Street in order to drop off and pick up students in front of the school.
45th: proceed down the double lane, turning left in front of the church and enter the left lane in the front of the school. (blue arrows on attached map )
Vermont Street: proceed up the driveway and go through the breezeway turning right to enter the right lane in front of the school. (red arrows on attached map )
Please wait for your car to be one of the first 3 in the drop off/pick up lane to ensure we can see all students exiting/entering cars.
Park: Parents that plan to park their car to walk their child to the main entrance for drop off or pick up may enter via 45th and park in the main lot. Please utilize the crosswalk in front of the school.
Students that walk: If your child walks to/from school, please have them utilize the walking path that leads from the school entrance, around the front of the church to the sidewalk on California St. (yellow arrows on attached map)
As we put the final touches on our faculty and staff roster for 2022-23, we currently have one open position:
Primary Instructional Assistant: Hours are Monday through Friday from 7:45am till 3:15pm (Wednesday till 2:15pm). This staff position collaborates with our primary teacher, fellow primary teachers and instructional assistants to ensure an orderly and efficient operation of the classroom and playground. Clerical functions may include typing, copying, recordkeeping, filing, and office support. MANDATORY TRAINING FOR PARENT VOLUNTEERS
We appreciate our parent volunteers! If you plan to volunteer on campus this year (hot lunch, classroom helpers, room parents, coaches, field trip chaperones, etc.) “Social Media Safety” will be the required 2022-23 course for current parent volunteers working with minors. You can access this course through the new Praesidium Academy website that we transitioned to last school year. Instructions are attached.
New families who want to get started volunteering need a clear Background Check, to view the CASE (Creating a Safe Environment) training, and to sign the Standards of Conduct form. Mrs. Michele Wasman can help you get started with these requirements.
