I was born in northern Idaho and grew up in Spokane, Washington. Two years after high school, I enlisted in the Army and spent the following 20 years 1 month and 17 days serving our great country starting out as a Hospital Food Service Specialist and finishing as a Veterinary Food Inspection Specialist. I deployed twice supporting two Humanitarian Missions, Operation Uphold Democracy in Port au Prince Haiti as part of the United Nations and Joint Task Force 160 Operation Sea Signal in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
While completing a five year tour in Rota, Spain, I completed a BS in business management with a minor in psychology from the University of Maryland, European Division. Thereafter, I was stationed in Everett, Washington and earned a Master's in Business Administration from Columbia College. Immediately following my graduation in 2005 I was selected to serve as an instructor for the Army Medical Department Center and School in San Antonio, Texas. I taught an assortment of classes including computers, math, ServSafe, and the Food Code to the incoming Veterinary Service Food Inspectors as well advanced skills to other Soldiers advancing in their education.
During my tenure in the military I was blessed with many opportunities to further my technical skills and education. As an additional duty, I was trained as a Systems Administrator and appointed as such on several of my duty assignments for the better part of 15 years. When my tour at the academy ended, I served as the Branch noncommissioned officer in charge (NCOIC) of Veterinary Services Bangor Branch in Bangor Washington in charge of two posts, a Veterinary Treatment Facility (VTF), and about 40 Soldiers. I wrapped up my military service as the Branch NCOIC at Fort Jackson Branch Veterinary Services in Columbia, South Carolina where I was in charge of approximately 49 Soldiers, 3 VTFs, and one Operational Rations Plant spread across South Carolina and Georgia.
I met my husband in 2004 while stationed in Everett. We were married in 2007 and have two children, both attending St John Fisher. We moved to Portland following my retirement from the Army in 2013 and I fell into a new career as a bookkeeper. I worked for a small local contractor from 2013-2017. When the bookkeeping position opened at St John Fisher in 2017, I applied and have been an employee ever since. In 2013, we became St John Fisher parishioners, however, because my husband's family lives in Portland, we visited the church frequently for many years before moving to Oregon. SJF has been a special place for me from the time that I met my husband and I feel very blessed to be a part of this community. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family, volunteering, putting together puzzles, cooking, and working in the yard.
