My name is Danielle Wiest and I am your SJF PE and Health Instructor. I was born and raised right here in the Portland Metro area. My sisters and I grew up in an all Catholic family and were parishioners of HolyTrinity Church in Beaverton. I grew up with a love of sports, especially soccer, basketball, and track and field, where it seemed most of my time spent was on the field or court ~ from 1st grade all the way into college. My love for sports stuck with me and ultimately influenced my educational path. I attended the University of Oregon (Go Ducks!) for 3 years then moved back home and finished off my BS degree with an emphasis in Exercise in Movement Science at Portland State University (Go Vikings!) ~ Later to return and get a second BS degree from Oregon State University (Go Beavs!) in Nutrition/Dietetics.
My husband and I met a few years after graduating from OSU. We shared similar passions for health and wellness, which lead to us becoming owners of vocational schools called the National Personal Training Institute. In addition to fitness and wellness education, I started my own Personal Training business. The years following focused on raising our children, which unintentionally turned into acceptance and patience for daily wrestling matches. Everything happens for a reason ~ now they excel in the sport. I learned to breathe and relax. As the boys grew I have coached and always stayed involved in their fitness, sports, and skill development. When it was time to pick a school for my oldest son, Ryland, we were so happy to find St. John Fisher. It has been such a wonderful blessing in our lives with a great community, an awesome staff, wonderful families ~ that we now call close friends, and so much more! We could not be more thrilled as parents. And I could not be more thrilled to be a part of the amazing and talented SJF faculty community.
I love being a part of helping your children grow not only physically but within all aspects of health and wellness. I believe there is so much to be learned in the way of making our bodies and minds work collectively, ultimately gaining more confidence, avoiding injuries, and developing in a way that we feel good about our overall well-being. This comes from gained confidence from learning correct movement patterns, gaining knowledge and experience in fitness and sport skill, and gaining awareness over our wellness and health. In my leisure time, I love being outdoors with family and friends, going on hikes/bike rides, traveling, and enjoying experiencing new places and just laughing and playing.
